This week I've been so humbled and grateful for the generosity of all my friends and family. My mom graciously gave me a quilt to give to my host family as a thank you for housing and feeding me for the three weeks. The Abruzzo men rallied together and gave me TONS of boy's clothes to donate, along with a football and kickball. Dom and Vinny both wrote great letters to the students down there about their own lives and asking the Kenyan children to describe how life is like down there. I can't wait to share those letters and bring back the responses, leave it to the kids to be so thoughtful and creative!
The Demonte family also donated TONS of adult and children's clothes! I now have two full suitcases filled with donations. Along with the clothes we have school supplies purchased by Becky Ardnt, a long time family friend. I will post pictures as we do the donations so everyone can see where their goods are going!
With the trip looming a day after tomorrow, the anxiety is setting in. However, we received an email from our contact at the Azma Community Group in Kenya that made Allison and I much more excited. We were notified that we have two trips planned for us, one is a safari to the National Game Reserve and another safari to the coast of Mombasa! We will also be working in an orphanage to rebuild it, also to help teach kids. We will also be taking medical supplies to the refugee camp.
Most importantly, we got contact info and phone numbers for the members of Azma who will be picking us up a the airport Saturday night.
So, the anxiety comes and goes, but right now the focus is on making sure our clothes are pre-treated with mosquito repellent and our mosquito nets are big enough.
